This is a very limited special-edition example of a single vineyard Bacchus. It boasts clear and bright, aromas of elderflower, pear and white peach. On the palate it is also extremely fresh, with flavours of lime-citrus, greengage and hints of tropical fruit supported by a crisp acidity balanced with a generous mouth feel and minerality.

BACCHUS is believed to be a combination of a Riesling-Silvaner cross with Müller-Thurgau, first achieved in Germany in the 1930s. Bacchus has become a “poster grape” for UK wine and is a relatively early ripener in the growing season. In Germany, it was generally known for having high sugar potential and low acidity levels. It is beginning to become more widely grown in premier vineyard sites for white wine across Europe.
HOFFMANN & RATHBONE was founded in 2009 near Mountfield, East Sussex by Ulrich Hoffmann and his wife Birgit Rathbone. Ulrich has been a winemaker and consultant for over 15 years, previously working in top estates in Baden-Württemberg, Bordeaux, Navarra, and Napa Valley. Together they have created a boutique business that is exclusively focused on quality. The key to the fine flavours and delicate layers of their wines is a combination of artistry and patience; traditional bottle fermentation and years of devoted cellar-ageing.
SUSSEX, UK - Situated in the south of England, the Sussex's climate is moderated by the Gulf Stream, a major Atlantic Ocean current that carries warm water from the Caribbean. Limited sunshine and cooler temperatures have led to sparkling wines becoming the most successful of English wines, some of which have been rated alongside the very best from Champagne. The classic champagne varieties Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier are particularly successful, creating outstanding sparkling wines carbonated through bottle fermentation in the méthode traditionnelle.
