GSM BLEND - GSM blended wines consist of Grenache – Syrah – Mourvedre. Hailing from the southern Rhone Valley in France, GSM wines have been eagerly embraced by New World producers. Rich and full bodied, Grenache contributes spice and red fruit whilst Syrah gives structure and dark fruits. Underpinning this is the tannins, colour and long finish offered by the Mourvedre.
Chateau de Saint Cosme is without doubt one of the very best wine producers in France, let alone the Southern Rhone. The winery dates back to 1490 and owns some of the oldest vines in the area. Winemaker, Louis Barruol’s family have owned the estate for generations, but it is only under his guidance that it is starting to fulfil its potential. Louis is an evangelist for the terroir of Gigondas and all the wines are made using the same combination of technical precision and artistry.
RHONE - The Rhone Valley is located in south-east France and follows the course of the Rhone river from Lyon to the Rhone Delta. The northern region’s granite-blessed slopes and continental climate are perfect for Syrah based reds and production of the Viognier, Rousanne and Marsanne white varieties. The flatter topography, sandy soils warmer all-year-round Mediterranean climate produces rich Grenache and Mourvedre grapes that are blended with Syrah to create the famous GSM Blend.
