Pinot Noir is the red wine grape of Burgundy and is now adopted in wine regions all over the world, achieving particular success in New Zealand and USA. Burn Cottage Vineyard Property is a 24 hectare estate in the foothills of the Pisa range in Central Otago, New Zealand. The vineyard is owned by the Sauvage family - which also owns the celebrated Koehler Ruprecht estate in Germany's Pfalz region - and they believe that the greatest expression of terroir is built upon the expertise of thousands of years of winegrowing around the world, applied by those with a sense of humility and dedication to achieving the purest wines possible.
Central Otago is located to the south of New Zealand's South Island, meaning it competes for the title of world's most southerly wine region. Vineyards cling to the sides of mountains and high above river gorges in this dramatic landscape and Pinot Noir has proven itself in this challenging terroir, consuming nearly 3/4 of the region's vineyard area. The typical Central Otago Pinot Noir is intense and deeply coloured, with flavours of plum, sweet spice and bramble.
